So you want to reticulate your garden, but you want to save water and money at the same time?

Well here’s how we do Reticulation Installation in Perth at Luke’s Landscaping Co.:

[/spb_text_block] [spb_blank_spacer height=”30px” width=”1/1″ el_position=”first last”] [spb_text_block animation=”none” animation_delay=”0″ simplified_controls=”yes” custom_css_percentage=”no” padding_vertical=”0″ padding_horizontal=”0″ margin_vertical=”0″ custom_css=”margin-top: 0px;margin-bottom: 0px;border-top: 0px default ;border-left: 0px default ;border-right: 0px default ;border-bottom: 0px default ;padding-top: 0px;padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;padding-bottom: 0px;” border_size=”0″ border_styling_global=”default” width=”1/2″ el_position=”first”]

Firstly, we like to use a good quality controller. The Weathermatic SmartLine or ProLine controllers are two of our most popular currently. Both of these controllers can help you to save a whole lot of water with their great features, such as the “Monthly % Adjust”. The “Monthly % Adjust” allows you to set the controller to automatically water more in summer, and less in winter and spring. It can even set the controller completely off in winter without you needing to touch a button. We can install rain sensors on both controllers.

[/spb_text_block] [spb_text_block animation=”none” animation_delay=”0″ simplified_controls=”yes” custom_css_percentage=”no” padding_vertical=”0″ padding_horizontal=”0″ margin_vertical=”0″ custom_css=”margin-top: 0px;margin-bottom: 0px;border-top: 0px default ;border-left: 0px default ;border-right: 0px default ;border-bottom: 0px default ;padding-top: 0px;padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;padding-bottom: 0px;” border_size=”0″ border_styling_global=”default” width=”1/2″ el_position=”last”]

Additionally, the Weathermatic SmartLine can be set to “Smart” mode and connect to a weather sensor. This weather sensor takes daily measurements of the weather and then makes real time adjustments to the watering program. If there’s a rainy day, the system will shut off for the next few days. If it’s especially hot, the controller will give your garden an extra drink. You can even program in the type of plants/lawn for each station (i.e. natives, cool season lawn), and it will water them according to their watering needs.

Another fantastic product we like to use is the Hunter MP Rotator.

The Hunter MP Rotator is perfect for a waterwise reticulation system as it can save you up to 30% more water than a traditional “spray” type nozzle. The heavy droplets help to penetrate the wind and soil, as opposed to the misting effect of regular sprays that just blows all over the place. This means that the fully adjustable MP Rotators consistently hit their target areas, which in turn saves you a lot of water.

This genius sprinkler nozzle also applies the water at least twice as slowly as regular spray type nozzles, allowing the water more time to soak in, helping to prevent run off.

Lastly, in the garden areas we often use waterwise drip line irrigation, at least as much as possible. It is more expensive to install but the benefits are fantastic. Now we know what you’re thinking… “They use drip line? Isn’t that the rubbish that’s always blocking up?” Well truth be told, yes it is – but only because it is so often installed incorrectly.

When installing drip line it is essential to have a disc filter, pressure regulator, flushing and air release valve. If these are all installed correctly the system should have no issues running correctly. Drip line runs on top of the soil and underneath a layer of mulch. By installing a line of drip line every 300mm we achieve “blanket” coverage of whole garden areas. All that’s left to do afterwards is to plant in between the rows and apply a healthy layer of mulch on top to lock the moisture in.
